Horse Book Review of 2022

As a horse fanatic and lifelong bookworm I'm always on the search to find the best horse books. I read many magazines in 2022 for my freelance work, but try to set aside something I could read for fun. It keeps me inspired and entertained!

So without further ado, my horse books of 2022...

  1. Seabiscut by Laura Hillenbrand

This was easily my top book of 2022! The movie is great and I think we can all admit that, but the book has soooo much more detail. The characters are so vivid you know they were real people. Any horse lover can appreciate this book and even those who might not ride.

I know, this one costs a pretty penny. But it's worth it. Phil tells the tales of trading cattle up the west coast from Mexico for over 70 years. As you can imagine, he has a lot of stories to tell. Less horse focused, this one would be a favorite for any cattleman interested in the history of the trade.

This book made the list for a few reasons. For one, it was interactive, with pages for you to actually write your goals and thoughts. If journaling is your new years resolution this is the book for you. And two, horses become a part of our lives, Ralston's journaling and instruction focuses not only on horse goals, but on life goals.

I found this one in Teskey's sale barn and don't regret purchasing it at all! This one is somewhat instructional and goal focused but a lot more conversational.

In 2023 I'm looking forward to a few more books already in my possession. I may have even snuck a peak at a few pages. And of course reading loads from Performance Horse Digest, Western Horseman, Quarter Horse News, AQHA Journal, Reined Cow Horse News and so many more magazines.

So far I already have these two!
